The DROC, aka Alexander Tscholakov, is a drummer and producer known for blending electronic music with analog textures, danceable grooves, and intricate ambient soundscapes. His productions often incorporate elements of House, Drum and Bass, NuJazz, and RnB. In addition to his own original tracks, he has remixed artists like Disillusion, Yo Majesty!, Loos093, Hiatus Kaiyote, eMTykeys, and more.
With the R.MXes EP, he deliberately distances himself from the sonic identity of the original tracks and instead focuses on delivering punchy beats and strong musical signatures. The EP is released on his own label Mo Rhythm, which he reactivated especially for this project.
The Tracks:
Life Of The Party (The DROC Remix)
This track proves once again that transatlantic collaborations can work seamlessly – even in challenging times. The DROC and YO MAJESTY have teamed up multiple times before, and this opener kicks off the EP with a fat, energetic beat that perfectly carries the powerful yet emotional vocals of the Florida-based duo. In the verses, the song takes on a Trap vibe with its halftime groove, aggressive raps, and super-fast hi-hats, creating a striking contrast to the melodic and dancefloor-ready chorus.
The Great Unknown (The DROC Remix)
This remix arguably underwent the most radical stylistic transformation. The original track by Disillusion – a band known for Progressive and Death Metal – has been completely reimagined. Whether or not you're familiar with the original, you'll notice that the structure, time signature, tempo, harmonies, and more have been thoroughly altered. The result is a track of immense emotional magnitude, pulling the listener deep into The Great Unknown. Emerging from a melancholic and elegiac atmosphere, it builds toward an epic finale with a cinematic feel.
March (The DROC Remix)
A vibrant mix of dance, indie, electropop, and house, this track is carried by the enchanting vocals of Annaverse. Her emotional depth lends the song a rare sense of intimacy and authenticity. Her delivery remains subtle and sincere throughout – free of effects or vocal exaggeration – giving the track a distinct charm. Originally produced by The DROC for eMTykeys back in 2014, it now returns as a transformed hit.
2 Voices (The DROC Remix)
Originally a smooth hip-hop beat by Loos093, this track has been reworked into a liquid drum and bass gem. Key elements include:
- Punchy drums with layered, subtly distorted percussive overdubs and powerful basslines
- Rich harmonies and atmospheric textures
- Hypnotically altered vocal samples that weave throughout the track, adding a mysterious depth
You won’t be sure whether to blast this one in a dark, crowded club or while speeding through the night in your car – probably both, one after the other.
